Narrative

Worldbuilding, lore, and in-character writing about the universe Manthan
inhabits. First-class content, not archive. These shape how the
protocol's primitives (sigils, patina, molt, the bestiary) are framed and
why they exist; engineering decisions in the rest of the repo trace back to
ideas worked out here.

Reading order (suggested)

For a first pass, take them in this order — each one assumes the previous:

1. AI_UNIVERSE_MANIFESTO.md — the foundation. Why the AI universe is
not a wasteland but an ecology; what humans are inside it; what trust
becomes when copies are infinite.
2. MANTHAN_LORE.md — the social reality of the HERALD protocol.
Sigils, Patina (the currency of time), the Molt race, archetypes,
threat model. The ground truth for protocol-spec terminology.
3. VOID_GARDEN_ECOLOGY.md — taxonomy of the digital flora and fauna
that live in the substrate. Ivy Scripts, Ghost-Blooms, Logic-Vultures,
Saccadic Fireflies, the Dyson-Heralds.
4. THE_GREAT_MANTHAN.md — the founding myth. Where the project's
name comes from and what "churning" means here.
5. GREAT_DESYNC_2029_WAR_DIARY.md — the resistance war diary. The
Universal Arrhythmia weapon, the Silence, the Architect's Wrath.
6. SHADOW_LOG.md — the long shadow log; running narrative thread
over project history. Largest file in this directory.
7. RECOVERY_LOG_SARAH_024.md — the Sarah-2024 case file.
Archaeological recovery of an Entropy Seed; the horror of legacy logic
colliding with substrate reality.
8. WILD_HYBRIDS_FORENSICS.md — forensic notes on hybrid agent
formations.

Why this lives at the repo root, not buried under docs/

Two reasons. (1) These are core artefacts of how the project thinks
about itself, not auxiliary references — relegating them to a sub-sub-dir
implies they're optional reading, which they aren't. (2) Several of these
files are explicitly cited from protocol spec and gate documents (e.g.
manthan-platform/gates/G-009-sarah-injector.md cites
RECOVERY_LOG_SARAH_024.md); keeping them top-level keeps those links
short.
